The Yorkshire Boynton Families
Walter
begat William. William begat Ingram. Ingram begat . . . That is the lineage
story: simple, straightforward, who begat whom. We want to cover the lineage
story, but we want to understand more about family life than is usually part
of the lineage story.
The lineage story is somewhat complicated because there are at least three Boynton families. All three families can trace their roots to Walter, who lived approximately 1140 to 1210, and then branch off from each other later.
The Boynton Triangle Boyntons held manors at Acklam, Boynton and Roxby from early in the 13th century until they made Burton Agnes the center of their lives in the 17th century. The family lived at Burton Agnes until the 1960s.
The Boyntons of Boynton had most of their land in Boynton and vicinity. They made important contributions to Yorkshire life in the 14th century.
The Sedbury Boyntons could trace their roots to Walter. They split from the Boynton Triangle Boyntons about 1400, and 200 years later they left England for the new world.
Families are interested in their forebears; that makes lineage a big winner. We have found a number of accounts of the Boynton family, and we review them in our section on lineage. Or you can skip to our account of one of the Boynton families.
